What is the babybay® Bedside Sleeper made of?
The babybay® Bedside Sleeper is made from natural beechwood. We sustainably resource all beechwood used by replanting every tree that is harvested. The EU highly regulates this process and we are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified. We also use high efficiency production methods and best practices to ensure we utilize the maximum amount of beechwood.
Does it come with a mattress, wheels or guardrail?
The babybay® Bedside Sleeper does not come with any accessories. We offer different types of mattresses, accessory options and colors. So, parents can fully customize their babybay® Bedside Sleeper.
Can I use other brand mattresses, sheets or accessories with babybay® Bedside Sleeper?
Presently, there are no other brand mattresses, sheets or accessories that can be used safely with the babybay® Bedside Sleeper, except for our mattress, sheets and accessory options. We have four amazing options to choose from.
What is the maximum bed height for the babybay® Bedside Sleeper?
This question depends on a few different factors. The maximum sleeping platform recommended by the manufacturer for safe use is 11in from the top rail. At this height the platform sits at 25in high and with any of our mattresses (an additional 2in)you are then looking at 27in to top of mattress. With the manufacturer recommended safety barrier on (an additional 6in), the height to the top of the safety barrier is 31in from the floor. If using the roller casters this increases all metrics by 2.5in. So the platform height then sits at 27.5in, 29.5in to top of mattress and the top of the safety barrier is then 33.5in. Many parents with tall beds want their bed to come to the top of the safety barrier at minimum. Many parents also prefer that the top of their bed meet the platform height or somewhere between the safety barrier.
What is the maximum weight capacity for the babybay® Bedside Sleeper?
We have tested the unit up to 300lbs. Many European families use it as a bench, while expecting their next love-bundles to arrive. However, this has not been certified for use in the US. And is not manufacturer recommended in the US.
How long can I safely use the babybay® Bedside Sleeper?
Outside the US, the standard is up to one year. However, the US is quite litigious; as a result, the CPSC guidance through ASTM certification recommends a bedside sleeper be used until 6 months of age or until baby pushes up. Many mothers in the US also use the product up to one year, but this is not manufacturer or CPSC recommended.
How long can I use the babybay® Bedside Sleeper with the Guardrail kit?
Same as previous answer in terms of time line. The Guardrail attachment is an additional safety feature.
Are your finishes water-based or oil-based?
Our finishes are water-based, and they are specific for use on children’s furniture. Our finishes are JPMA certified and tested at the highest standards in Europe and the US for harmful chemicals or substances. Our finishes have low or no VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) count.
Is the babybay® Crib/Playpen conversion kit available?
Unfortunately, the conversion kit is not available in the US yet. It is being sold internationally, but our units are specific to the US market and require a separate conversion kit. We are excited to bring it to the US by 2017?
Will the Crib/Playpen conversion kit work with previously sold babybay® Bedside Sleepers?
Unfortunately, the kits will only work on the newest versions of the product. All units sold prior to the release of the conversion kit will not be compatible.
How else do parents use the babybay® after bedside sleeper configuration?
Internationally, the babybay® is used as a bench, as it holds over 300kg, a play desk, a changing table and other innovative uses such as a dog bed! There is even a high-chair conversion kit and a toddler bed extension. However, in the US the product is not safety certified for these uses yet. We are working hard with the Manufacturer to bring these features to the US under CPSC guidance compliance. Although we see posts of parents using it to this capacity in the US, the CPSC and manufacturer do not recommend it and is not liable for such continued use.
What safety certifications does the babybay® Bedside Sleeper have?
Here at babybay® safety comes first. We build relationships with parents and partners through trust in our company, through transparency and trust in our products, represented by the highest standards of testing. The babybay® Bedside Sleeper is JPMA certified, ASTM certified, TÜV certified and Confidence in Textiles (Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class 1 for babies) certified.
What is JPMA certification?
The JPMA (Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association) certification “is a comprehensive Certification Program developed by JPMA to help guide parents and caregivers toward purchasing juvenile products that are built with safety in mind. The JPMA Certification Seal on a product tells consumers this product has been verified as conforming to the requirements established by the CPSC through ASTM standards, by independent laboratory testing and follow-up on-site inspection of the manufacturer's production line.” Furthermore the JPMA protocol exceeds ASTM standards and is considered the highest rating of safety in juvenile product testing. The CPSC collaborates with JPMA on new regulatory requirements and safety standards in the industry.
What is the FSC?
The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is “an international non-profit, multi-stakeholder organization established in 1993 to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. The FSC does this by setting standards on forest products, along with certifying and labeling them as eco-friendly. The FSC’s stated mission is to ‘promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world's forests.’ To this end the body has published a Global Strategy with five Goals:
- Advancing globally responsible forest management.
- Ensure equitable access to the benefits of FSC systems.
- Ensure integrity, credibility and transparency of the FSC system.
- Create business value for products from FSC certified forests.
- Strengthen the global network to deliver on goals 1 through 4.
FSC certification ensures that products come from well-managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits.”
